Johnson 15hp

Hi,

We have a Johnson (or maybe Evenrude?) model J15RLCSD. Not sure of the year. It is my father's motor and he is looking for some information on a part that is beside the flywheel. It doesn't appear to show in the manual he has.

The part is plastic and orange and appears to engage the gear on the pull start and sits beside the flywheel (or just under). It is broken and we are trying to find out what it is and what it does (and whether it is necessary to replace).

The motor had been working fine up til he had a problem with the pull start and now it may run for a little while and then "freeze up". I believe he said he can turn the flywheel backwards and get it going again.

I can get better details and provide a picture of the part if anyone can help (and a year if it is somewhere on the motor??). I may not quite have the "story" right yet as to what happened but figured someone might be able to at least identify the part.

Your motor is a 1980.

We need a little better description of the problem. What do you mean freezes? and what does the freezing? Sometimes those rewind starters need to be disassembled, cleaned and regreased. Could be the spring is worn out.

I have a feeling the broken part is the plastic piece that stops you from being able to pull the rope when the engine is in gear.

Are The Wires From The Stator Witch Is Under Your Flywheel Go Into This Box. Also Known As The Brain Box. Then From There The Wires Go Down To Your Rectifiers.what You Are Dicribing Thow Doesent Sound Electrical. The Motor Freezes??

I will talk to my father tonight and get some better details and then post back.
