alpha 1 wont go into gear

We were out in the boat todayhit some rocks i thiunk.The outdrive kicked out of gear .I put it in neutral tried forward and reverse no luck Just a little clicking sound.Pulled boat of water.When shifter in forward prop will turn both ways with a little noise .The prop and shaft are spinning so its not theprop spinning in the sleeve.I pulled outdrive offWhen i turn the drive shaft the prop doesnt spin.Its a 1986 alpha 1 170 hp any ideas maybe pinion in bottom end?:mad::

split the unit to see if it`s a upper or lower problem.most likely the lower shaft got sheared or the pinion was sheared.
