upper gear case questions.....HELP!

I have an OMC Stringer with a model # 983159 which I found on the outdrive. I don't know whether its a 400 or 800. The gears have a ratio of 21/20 but are shot, I am looking to buy a whole new outdrive because I think this will be more cost efficient for my purposes. I have been looking on ebay and keep coming across the model # 982740, Please tell me these are intrchangeable, if you need more info on the boat more than willing to get, if you give me a hint where to find the info you need.

your 983159 is 800 series for the 3.8L V6. That other number is incorrect for V6.
I have a whole V6 drive on eBay and i have new 21:20 gearsets, but I'm in Canada so search might not find it. I have also never put model numbers in auctions, I don't expect that kind of homework has been done. I haven't listed a complete upper on there but I could if that's what you need.
