Throttle up problems....

I have an '89 85 horse Force that has never given me one hiccup of a problem. Yesterday after fishing all morning and running the motor from time to time at idle, we decided to "move" Hit the fuel to her, she reponded as usual, got on plane, then the RPM's died off until she died. It started right back up, and after a minute, I again fed the ponies only to have the same thing happen? It idles like a purring kitten, it takes the fuel at WOT, but after 30 seconds dies off. Any clues? Plugs are perfect.

I would start with the fuel pump. Test to see if the primer bulb is hard when this happens. Could also be your needle valve in the carb is stuck so carb float bowl is not filling up. If your fuel pump looks like this get a fuel pump kit 18-7806 from Iboats for like 9 bucks. and replace the diaphram and gasket. also post your model number. Force made like 20 different models that year.

Thanks for input. As far as I know, the pump is original. What if the part kits is "Out of Stock"? Can the filter be cleaned if the diaphram is not torn?
