I have a 1980 Wellcraft sport 175 with an OMC 200 engine, and 800 out drive. I believe he block has a crack on the port side just below the head.

Here is a picture.

I don't know if that is repairable or not. I do have another engine that I could use, but I have never swapped an engine in a boat. Does it just bolt on a housing like an automatic in a car, or is there a shaft like on a car with a manual transmission?

That looks like a crack all right! Tell me you did not flood the engine with water?

That's a chevy 305 block. Dime a dozen. You have a variety of options as to replacing it. Depends on how much you are willing to spend.

If you remove the drive, you can pull the motor and intermediate housing as an assembly and disassembly. Or do as I did and pull the drive, remove the bellows, scrape a few knuckles and unbolt the intermediate from the bellhousing. (My bellows was bad anyway and had to come off)
