Default oil pump not filling tank on engine-- 1987 200 yamaha

I have a 1987 200 hp yamaha and trying to figure out why the oil tank on the engine is not filling up - My alarm fires when oil is low on the tank but no oil is
pumped into the tank. I can use the manual switch on the control unit and oil is pumped from the reservoir tank on the boat so that pump is working. I can also fill the tank on the engine with oil and the alarm goes away after turning the engine off and on again, so the sensor is detecting correct fluid level --So it does not sound like the oil sensor on the tank, nor the pump on the reservoik tank, + the manual switch on the control unit also works--so what is left?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Bill.

More than likely the trim sender on the transom bracket is either stuck in the up position, or is broken. Barring that, you may have a defective gauge at the dash. The wiring can be bypassed so the pump "thinks" the trim sender is funciouning, but it's better to have everything working properly.

I dont think i understand correctly-- Trim sensor on the transom bracket? I am referring to the oil injection system on the engine--this is what is failing i.e. no oil is getting pumped to the tank on the engine-- why is the trim sensor involved? My trim/tilt work perfectly-- Also what gauge are you referring to? There is only a red or orange alarm light which lights on the dash
when my oil alarm goes off...

Confused??

The oil injection system works with the tilt sensor to make sure it doesnt pump oil when the outboard is in the tilted position. Sounds to me like a bad sensor in the motor oil tank- theres a test proceedure floating around here somewhere...

The tilt trim switch did not affect that model unit. It had a mercury switch in the contorller module to cut it off when in the tilt position.
The most likely problems are a bad sensor switch in the engine mounted tank or a bad wiring connection between the tanks.

main oil tank not filling engine oil tank
year 2000 - yamaha 150 txry
my trim indicator is working fine
replaced main oil tank with complete yamy kit six months ago because the
steel frame was rusting badly. until now, never had a problem with this motor.
last week the engine mounted oil tank stopped filling
i replaced the float switch sending unit with no success.
i have opened and sprayed contact cleaner on connectors with success.
i can fill the engine oil tank by using the switch on the back on the engine.
i am thinking of removing the wiring harness between the main oil tank
and the engine mounted oil tank and checking the resistance (ohms)
on each wire to be sure that i don't have a broken wire. i will
move the wires around a bit when i do this.

glenn
post a NEW thread.
your oil transfer system is light years different than the 89 system of this thread.
