Hi,
I'm rebuilding the waterpump on this old merc, but I'm pretty new to all this stuff. I bought the impeller kit and I have a couple of questions:
1. When replacing the gaskets and the metal plate, do I need to use any type of a sealer?
2. Where is the O-ring located, I don't remember seeing it in the water pump - do I need to take off the water pump lower housing as well to see it?
3. There are 3 screws that hold the upper housing. I get those off and screw them back in just fine. However, there's a 4th screw, that unscews just fine, but when I try to tighten it, it keeps rotating (slipping) when it get's screwed in. Should it be behaving that way or is this screw for something else?

- Merc 850 serial number 7033158
- Beginning Serial 4590512 & UP
- Mercury 85HP (year 1979)
- 4 Cylinders
- 2 Stroke
