I have a late 80's/early 90's Evinrude 4 HP deluxe and my recoil starter has sprung. I've had bad experiences in the past trying to mess with these things. Is it possible to just replace the whole starter unit? If so where could I buy that?
there aren't any on eBay right now and I want to get this motor back on the water sooner rather than later. If there is a way I can buy a new one that would be great. Anybody have any ideas?
Yank the darn thing and stuff a rope on it...worked for years until they came up with "easy start" way..theres cutouts on the flywheel pulley, or a file will do the job if not
I have recently run into a similar problem with my Evinrude of the same vintage and came looking here in search of a solution. You must have solved the problem by now, but how? I've braved the rewinding and rewinding and springing long enough. How did you solve your problem? Thanks.
Good instructions can be found in an OMC service manual. I'm sure you could contact an OmC dealer to see if the entire unit is available or perhaps take the rewind to them and ask them to repair it. Best of luck. Rick.
