transom?.. you guys are gonna laugh at me!!

ok, i really don't know what a transom is... remember, this is my first boat EVER!

i always see and hear people talking about transoms rotting and having to replace the transom. i have a 31 year old boat and would like to know how to check it out...

just wanted to thank you guys for the help on this one...lol i guess no one here knows what the transom is, huh?

well, heres my best guess for ya, i think its the back wall where the motor is attached? i have no clue, that just seems like a transom...lol

thanks, seriously...lol. my next question is, does the transom consist of more than just the back wall? or is it ONLY the back wall?

To check for softness in your transome you need to have someone pull or lift on the outboard motor. Watch carefully on the back of the boat for give. If there is no give you have a solid transom. Check this every year. If its soft you will need to reinforce or gut and replace. They make a composite that pours into place and makes it solid for soft areas.
