Hey all, newb here.

My neighbor up here at the cabin is having some issues with his boat. It's a 2002 Glastron GS 180 with a 90 HP Mercury outboard. As he accelerates or maintains a high speed on the water, the engine seems to be starved of gas. He said the primer pump ball contracts and cuts off fuel flow, as if there were a vacuum force within line. We looked to see if his fuel vent was blocked, but couldn't even find it on that particular boat. We have a 2003 20' Glastron Ski/Fish with an I/O and ours has a vent on the left side of the boat in front of the windshield. Any help here would be much appreciated, THANK YOU! :)

Re: 2002 Mercury 90 Fuel Starved

If the primer bulb is being sucked flat, there is definitely a fuel restriction between the primer bulb and the fuel pickup in the tank. Try running with the fuel filler cap open (just long enough to verify that the tank is being vented). If the problem goes away, the tank vent is plugged. The vent may be part of the filler cap. If that's not the issue, then check for a kinked fuel line or a stuck/partially stuck anti-siphon valve. That valve is the fitting where the fuel line connects to the tank. They have been known to stick.

Thanks for the help, I'll let him know and we'll test that out. Any idea where the vent is on these boats? It's not at the fuel filler cap because that's sealed (sits pretty close to the water in the rear). Thanks again!
