Alright I first want to say that I don't own a boat because I have always been told the best boat is your friends boat. With that said my friend is not mechanically inclined and I am. So friend with boat enlists help of mechanically inclined friend who gets roped into fixing the boat for some beer....
He just put the boat in for the first time this year and the steering is really tight turning left and right. Power steering pump is full according to him and it does not make noise. I am thinking it is the steering cable and was looking for some affirmation and a good on-line source for parts. Any info including on-line boat manuals or just tips and tricks on replacing the cable would be much appreciated...
By the way I love this stuff especially when its not my problem so it is no bother helping him out...The boat is a 97 Bayliner Capri 1850 ls with a 4.3 merc.
also you can try shooting some grease into the grease fittings if he hasn't already done so on the stearing unit, did mine at the beginning of the season, it does sound like the cables could be a little froze up from the winter storage(moisture build up).
