Trying to help out another poster on the Sterndrive site. We are having trouble finding the cause of this beeping noise under the dash. Here what he has to say....

"I just purchased a w/ 3.L, 135 HP Mercruiser. I took it out for first time July 4th and when I launched and started the engine a constant beeping came from under dash. The beeper is small and on a red/black wire that after a foot or so becomes a larger black wire that goes toward the back of the boat.I cant trace it. All my guages read perfect except the tach which doesnt work.I called previous owner and he said never happened to him and to just cut the beeper wire. I dont want to do that in case its warning me of a problem. Any suggestions?"

Ruled out depth gauge and the gauges all seem to be working, no low oil pressure or overheating but he did say the tach doesn't work.

My stingray has that alarm, however, it stops when the boat is started. Its an alarm that lets you know the key is turned to the right, but the boat is not started.

Not sure why yours does not turn off when the boat starts, though. I have never traced my wire all the way.

Does it beep when you turn the key to the left, accessory position?

Does your boat have a gearlube resivoir on the motor if it does it probably needs gear oil added to it. The alarm is connected to overheat, low oil and gear oil level in the remote resivoir, The alarm circuit is a tan/blue wire on the motor and in the wiring harniss to the dash. Hope this helps.

I have that alarm also that goes off if you leave the key on without starting the motor, it is a pain, has anyone ever disconnected that alarm?

probably to late but the beeping is oil pressure if it continues to beep after starting your oil pressure is off shut it down it is beeping for a reason oil pressure is low be carful
