I just got a 18ft Aries Bass boat with a 150 Mariner outboard. The motor is not charging. It always has a voltage reading of 12.6 volts while running. I performed a rectifier test as outlined in the seloc manual. It showed that the rectifier was bad. It had continuity all the time on all poles. I changed out the rectifier, it still did not charge, I rechecked the test, it had continuity on "A" and "C" with the positive and negative lead to ground, but from "B" to "A" and "C", it was open. Did I fry the rectifier, and have another problem? I then checked AC voltage straight out of the stator, one terminal, the voltage was switching good, the other did not move much. Bad stator as well? Did that fry the new rectifier? Please help, I really want to get fishing, but right now I don't want to shut the motor off, then get stranded. Also what year is the motor if anyone could tell me, the serial # is OB184363.
I took the flywheel off today, the stator was loose, all 4 bolts were loose. The inside of the flywheel was not damaged but it looked like it had wear marks on 1 side more than the other. The stator did not look bad, it wasn't melted, but 1 part was worn down from the flywheel rubbing on it. I tightened the stator down, and fired it back up, it was at 13.46 volts at the battery, so I thought everything was fine. I let it run for about 10 minutes, then went to fire it back up,and only the starter turned but did not engage the flywheel. Put the charger back on, fired it back up, now voltage was only 12.99 at the battery and at the rectifier. Please help me figure this out.
