2001 evinrude ficht dies. then starts right back up

taking my boat for a cruise, I have twin 2001 150 fichts. The starbord motor dies all of a sudden. The motor fires right back up like there is nothing wrong, a few minutes later it will die again. After the motor dies it will start right back up, like nothings wrong so on and so forth. I replaced the fuel filters but it is still acting up. The motor will plane off and idel perfect but it just quits just like that. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Check your electrical connects to the ECM module. I had a problem with a loose GND wire to the module that drove me crazy. It would crank, idle fine and then die when powering thru 2000 RPM. Tighted the screw down on the GND wire problem solved.

While the motor is idling with the cover removed, very carefully tap the computer box (EMM) with the shank of a screwdriver. Tap, not pound. Sometimes a bad circuit inside the computer will stop the motor. Also inspect the wiring harness for rubbing or chafing, especially around the top stb. side of the motor where it may contact the top of the block.

Oftentimes you can't find the problem and have to either exchange the EMM with your dealer for a new or rebuilt one, or have it fixed by DFI Technologies.

i have a 2001 mercury 40 horse 4 stroke outboard that will die but then it will start right back up
