Unhappy 2002 Evinrude 115 Ficht starting problem

I am new to this forum and I would really appreciate a hand with this one if someone could take the time. Here goes:

Motor (2002 115 Evinrude Ficht) started and ran fine some weeks ago. Cut out, restarted after some time but was confined to computer-limited revs back to port. No obvious problem, nothing showing on dashboard warning lights or subsequently on Evinrude laptop diagnostics.

Now will only crank over (without starting) for a very short period until it shuts itself down. If the electric feed to the bottom port fuel injector is disconnected, the engine cranks for a slight bit longer before quitting and sounds like it might start if allowed to crank over for long enough.

Tests show just under battery voltage (11.5v) with ignition on and around 22v under cranking - normal. 40v circuit tested and ok.

All fuses ok. All HT and plugs tested and ok. Fuel injectors tested and ok.

Any ideas why this motor will not even crank over properly let alone start?

Thanks for your time.

11.5 volts on your battery is too low. A properly charged batter should read greater than 12volts and possibly over 13 volts.

Not sure where you are from, but has the battery been in any cold weather? Any possibility of it getting frozen? How do you store your battery when not in use. It is essential that you do not store it on bare concrete (like the garage floor). Place it on a block of wood or insulation foam.

If you think the battery is good, try throwing a trickle charger on it over night. It will read over 12v's to begin with after charging, but may degrade fast.

Not sure how essential the battery is to this particular motor, but I know on ATV's with EFI a bad voltage regulator or battery sends them into "limp mode" for safety.

Not sure if this is it, but a place to start nonetheless...

Wow, that was fast, thanks Palssonater.

The voltage in the injector circuit should read approx 1v less than battery, unless cranking (c. 22v) or running (c. 40v), this is normal. Battery is ok but has been bypassed with an external battery just in case. This is one of those cases where we think that all obvious (and some not so obvious) solutions have been explored. It has gone past frustration into obsession!!!!

I'm in Ireland, and your question about over-wintering batteries is a good one for our climate but all seems okay in that department.

Thanks again.
