Lightbulb 9.9 Evinrude exhaust wierdness

I just bought a lund boat witha a 9.9 evinrude. I put muffs on it fired it up ran perfect but i looking down at the prop exhaust and a this greyish brown sludge was coming out. The first thing I thought was lower unit lube. So drained it and it looked green and like brand new. So no troubles with the lube. The motor is an 89 with less than 100 hours on it.

the first time i fired it up on the muffs it did not pump water so the next time i turned the water way up and it pumped fine and also pumped great in the lake. Could it have been old gas in the tank hose? Or was I forcing to much water up the exhaust with the hose? Thanks for any advice. Mettyfish

probably old dried up build up in the exhaust housing. change the impeller any way. don't get stranded, or burn it up. as it doesn't have a overheat alarm.

Tashasdaddy has nailed it. Old exhaust crud. Run it hard and it'll purge itself. A little seafoam wouldn't hurt the whole deal either.

Go boating already.
