My performance from 18.5 ft boat with a 1993, 4.3 OMC is only 35 mph and 3800 rpm WOT. Is this all she has??? This is a 2bbl Holley carb with a standard (non-electronic) distributor. I have both a 14 1/2 x 19 3 blade and 4 blade props. It doesn't pull me out of the water skiing like I want. Shouldn't I get more like 4600/4800 rpm's with 45mph... And yank my butt out of the water with ease??? Any other observations, tips to increase performance would help...

You should do better than that.

Have you done a compression test?

How about a full tune up?

I have a 91 Bayliner Capri 2050CX with a 4.3L mercruiser + Alpha drive. w/Mercarb 2bbl. And yes yours should be about the same performance, with the right trim + tilt setting I get about 48mph, she does 35mph at 3500rps.

Check and make sure your throttle linkage is pulling the throttle all the way open in the carb. Simple things first. Visual Checks.... watch the choke at warm up - watch linkages move.
