'89 3.0 L seadrive (supposed to be a 225 looper) ran fine @ sea trial, now on cuff wouldn't start, no spark, found kill wire rubbed through in harness and grounding to block, still no spark, disconnected kill leads at pack, still no spark, remembered to connect pack ground wire (Duh) still no spark, checked charge coils resistance and ground (no ground, 986,925 ohms), charged battery & removed plugs, spark on 2,4,6 but none on 1,3,5. kill wires still disconnected, swapped charge coils, problem remained w/odds. reconnected & swapped sensor coils, no change. Is this procedure sufficient to condemn the power pack?? If so my pack is marked CD6AL/67 586662 29 C1C-BA which doesn't show up in any of the online parts suppliers. Opinions/experience with Sierra?
The manual, link found here to http://www.boatpartstore.com/page35.asp and the information at http://www.outboardparts.com/omc/troubleshooting/troubleshooting3.htm
were invaluable yet still insufficient to impart a complete understanding of what's what. Thanks in advance for such a great site & outstanding community of users.

Re: 89 225 spark troubles

Look at the shift lever under the carburetors. There is a shift cutout switch there (necessary) which allows the starboard bank to cut its ignition momentarily (1,3,5) in order to shift out of gear into neutral easily.

Trace the wire from that switch to the powerpack and disconnect it. If you now have spark on 1,3,5, I would assume you have a faulty shift cut out switch.

Thanks Joe,
I'll double check but the diagram I have shows the shift switch connected to the kill wire(s) (Black w/ yellow) which are presently disconnected at the pack.
