470 alternator conversion

My battery isn't charging and based on troubleshooting convinced it's stator or regulator. Seems most logical to do the alternator conversion.

I've seen all options from the $700+ kit to the do it your self parts yard creation.

Someone mentioned a one wire alternator. Does that go through the current regulator wiring to the battery?

What's the least expensive way to fix this problem and get back on the water?

Any ideas for cheaper non o.e.m. kits or other solutions appreciated.

Thanks much!

Nope,....... Directly to the Battery,...... Usually at the Starter or Soleniod.......

If You're comfortable Building it,.......... Go for It,......

If Not,....... The Kit is about your Only Option.........

Re: 470 alternator conversion

I'll check those options. One thing I noticed is two different installations. My 470 has the coolant tank on the upper side of the engine which is one option while I believe I have room for the lower install.

We've had the boat for two years (78 Fiberform) and seem to keep running into problems. Maybe I fix it and find another boat. Other friends tell me the same problems happen regardless of the boat.

Thanks for the help and advice. I may post back with additional questions.

In the event someone else finds this thread when searching for the same information...

just did a quick look at breezeworks.net and found the mounting kit for $89. The alternator looks to be about $100. Can't get a direct link to the page with photo of both high and low mount but it's there.

Thanks all again.
