I was running my jon boat with an 87 15hp evinrude OB the other day in the river and all of a sudden it was like the prop had fallen off. I pulled the motor up to have a look and the prop was still there. I could motor slowly back to the ramp, but when I applied the throttle it was likt a clutch slipping and I got no forward motion.

Can someone tell me what the likely problem is and what I need to do to repair it please?

Any chance I can get you to send it to garcam@runbox.com?

Thanks,
GMC

1st it would help if we knew what motor you have. could be bad clutch dog or a spun prop. does it go clunk like you hit something, or just like the clutch is slipping in a manual transmission car?

Re: Thought I lost the prop...

ok, the prop is built with an inner and outer metal hub, between them is a rubber bushing, this has given way, you can not fix it. has to be done by a Prop Shop, or replace the prop. clik props at the top of this page.

this is why i ask which motor, as some of the older ones have a shear (drive) pin that goes thru the prop shaft, and drives the propeller. if you have one of these and it is broken, it is just an easy fix to replace the pin.
good luck.
