Some of you may have seen my recent threads on the rubber smell I have been smelling. changed the impeller and it didn't fix the problem. So took it to the shop and they said I needed to change the housing and everything since it was fried. Okay I will give them that as I screwed up once and forgot to turn the water on adjusting the carbs, but I still can figure out how I would be able to smell that. It is inside the lower unit and seemingly no way for it to get out. They tell me the bellows are in good shape. Through the shift shaft?

If your water pump was bad, and you had low or zero water flowing, you may have fried the exhaust hoses coming off of the risers. What year engine and type drive do you have?

1972 Searay 120 mercruiser after market drive. The shop says all of it is fine. I had posted earlier in another post about how hot the exhaust riser should get and no one replied. With the new impellar I put in it I could hold my hand on the manifold before and after the high spot on the elbow, but not on the elbow. Too hot?
