Hi,
My 88' Force 50hp was working great last year before I winterized it. I uncovered it yesterday and couldn't get it to start. The starter cranks it just fine, and there is plenty of fuel and plenty of compression. -But there is no spark. I've removed the white and blue magneto wires from the engine to make sure the problem is not in the ignition or kill switch circuit, and its not.
I've tried using a screwdriver in the plug wires to see if there is a spark and have used a voltmeter to test for a spark, but there appears to be no spark on either coil. Since I would guess its rare for both coils to go out, I would have to guess the problem lies before the coils (I have checked all the coil grounds and they are clean)
I'm thinking either the Stator is no good or something to do with the trigger (either bad trigger or maybe magnet came unglued from the flywheel?)
I was just wondering, can the stator be tested with a regular digital voltmeter on the AC setting? (I've been reading that a DVA meter may be neccessary for the coils, but for the stator?) The stator appears to have 4 wires, 2 blues and 2 greens. Should their be 200+V across each pair of Blue/Green or are all the wires positive and the block is the ground?
Also, any easy way to test trigger with just a regular digital voltmeter? The trigger also has four wires, should the pairs of wires change from open to close as the flywheel is turned? I know there is a way to test it with a DVA but I don't have one of those.
I'll be picking up a force/chrysler manual at my library tomorrow, that should help....
