Does anyone have a better way of removing/installing a flywheel nut on a 20-35 hp without jamming a bunch of rope into the cylinder? I am really uncomfortable doing that. I cringe everytime I do. I use a strap wrench on smaller motors, but I find it too difficult to hold and turn both wrenches at one time on the bigger ones. I also have an impact gun that I could use to remove the nut, but not to reinstall it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I usually jamb something in the cogs between the flywheel and the starter gear. I'm not recommending it, just saying that's how I've done it.

I use a helper and a strap. Read: Cranky Wife!

Make yourself a real strap wrench. Out of a piece of 2 x 2 about 3 feet long, and a piece of webbing. Now you've got yourself something to hang onto. Or stick it under your arm to free up your hand.

Strap wrench from harbor freight. Cost? $19.99 plus shipping.

Keep the wife around. To put 150 ft-lbs on a 225HP, I needed my father.
