The only reason I like them is because I know every stupid idiosyncracy about them and have learned how to deal with them and buy them cheap. They are not user-friendly.
Have a healthy battery and throw the wingnuts out. Keep the connections pristinely clean and use hex nuts and keep them wrench-tight. Do those and you'll have a lot of happy service.
My current version is a 1972 100Hp and I'm going for a boat ride tomorrow come hell or high water!
