For the second year in a row I had a similar situation occur on the first outing when launching.

Boat started and idled fine. When i started to accelerate it backfired through the carb. Last yaer all I did was replace the water seperater...........this year I replaced it twice and also added dry gas.

Now it seems fine...........opened it up today and the Vortec made the Grady sound like a speed boat.

Is this what I can expect each spring? Does anyone else have this problem?

I fill the tank in the fall and add Stabil to the fuel.......

Re: Water(?) in Fuel

could you be introducing the water by power washing or a heavy handed hose near the fill or vent areas? a bad gasket on the fill cap?

Not sure how the fuel fill cap is situated on your Grady, but I have seen several boats this spring with water in the fuel because the oring on the cap was missing or the treads were messed up in the cap and wouldn't let the oring seal.
Especially if the cap is on a flat surface.

Re: Water(?) in Fuel

May I suggest the Motther Nature did it. When a tank is not full and allowed to sit the cooling and heating will cause mosture to form in the gas system. I just had a LONG bout with this. The answer is BEFore you get it in the water to open the carb and clean the fuel bowl, change the filter and store the boat FULL of fuel. This covers all bases.
PS the fuel dryer chem can cause a jelly looking deposit in the fuel as it absorbs the water. This is what was getting into my carb and causing the problem.
