stern drive full?

Put a new impeller in my aftermarket stern drive. The boat is a 72 Searay 120 hp Mercruiser, but the sterndrive is an aftermarket. Went to the dealer to get the Mercruiser gear lube and was told it only hold just less than a quart. Filled from the bottom waiting to see it come out the top hole. Put the entire quart in and it never came out the top hole. If I take a straw from a broom and use it as a dipstick I can get the straw wet with clean blue lube, but the lube never came out of the top hole.

My pre-alpha holds a quart plus about 5 or 6 pumps from a second quart.

my pump is supposed pump 1oz per pump. If that is the case then I need about 6 more ounces.

It's been a trouble free drive for me. I'll have to go get some more lube it looks like.

Fill it till it comes out the hole. Doesn't matter what the estimated amout is for that drive. Fill it right and fill it full and you may not have to replace it for a while. Skimp on the oil and run the upper bearing dry for a while and you can cost yourself another drive.
