Quick question, about plaining out

Is it the closer the motor to the boat the faster it will plain out or the further away from the boat???
And If I'm just cruising around all day no towing I would of'course want to plain out faster??? I was thinking about buying 2 100lb sandbags and putting them up front...
Is this a bad idea???

What is it you're trying to get to go? 5 hp on a rowboat, or 150 on a bass boat?

More weight, in general, will slow you down.

140 hp outboard mercury, on a 16' 10'' open bow searay
So no bags but where should I place the motor???
