iam looking to buy a 1997 3488 bayliner 454 merc's v drives
the surveyer says to inspect manafolds and replace if 7 years old at top end of costs 2800 to 3000 $ is there a history of these manafolds failing more then others
if i replace them are there upgrades some the problems with these are lowered
or iam i just being overly concerned , i read about a same type of boat
needing a repower but dont know why
also seller says he inspected them a year ago, i dont know if that is true since i dont have proof
surveyer said if crusaders not a problem, but merc's had more problems
with water getting into the motors
boat has 245 hours on it in fresh water , bill

All a person has to do is pull the risers and inspect the gasket surfaces of the manifold, riser, and any extensions. If they are good, clean, shiny metal they should be ok.
That 7 year change is about normal on a salt water boat, but may not be a problem on a freshwater only boat.
