6 hp johnson- will run, but!!

I have a 6hp 1990 evinrude which I've been coaxing to run. Rebuilt the carb.
replaced one coil. I can get it to start by squirting some mix into the carb, and sometimes with the choke. It will run at higher RPM, but will die off if I don't have it fast enough. Does anyone have any ideas on it??? Thanks for any input you may have on it.. marvxyz1

It sound like you're overlooking something within the carburetor. If you haven't manually cleaned the high speed jet located in the bottom center of the float chamber, do so.
