I'm trying to make sure I have the right battery for my trolling motor. I purchased an EverStart 24DC-6 Marine battery from Walmart, but I can't seem to determine what voltage this thing is. When I look it up on the web, I can't find any information on it. The minn kota I have is calling for a 12 volt battery. Can anyone tell me what kind of battery I have? Also, what kind of charger I would need for it?

Re: Battery Question

Battery 101: Six holes for water = 12V. 24DC-6 is a Group 24 (the physical size of the battery) and I believe it is a 75 Amp Hr battery. You need a 12 Volt smart charger such as a Guest 6 Amp on board charger. The charger can remain plugged into 110 Volts AC at the dock or in your garage indefinitely.

Re: Battery Question

When selecting a battery charger, what do the Amps mean? Does more Amps mean faster charging?

Re: Battery Question

Yes. A 1 amp charger will put 1 amp back into the battery each hour. A 6 amp charger puts 6 amps back per hour. 10 amp and 20 amp chargers are also available but they get spendy. A 6 or 10 amp charger will fully charge a deeply discharged battery overnight.
