I have a 305 Mercruiser with a 888 outdrive. My question is, does anybody know of any reason why the engine would die when it is put in reverse but runs great in forward???
ANY and ALL information will be greatly appreceiated.
Thank you:eek:

It sounds like a lower shift cable problem, either out of adjustment or freezing up causing the shift interupt switch lever to stick or the interupter switch plunger is sticking in the switch.

Welcome to iboats......:)
Is is most likely that it is a bad lower shift cable as Reel Poor suggests....
It would not hurt to lube the pivot points on the shift plate either....;)
Here is a link to manual #6 that will outline the replacement procedure...:)
