I have a 2001 17' fish/ski glastron with a V6 4.3 Volvo Penta GL. My dad didn't winterize it but it was in a heated garage this winter. I recently droped it in to see if it still ran and it kind of started. I have to put it in nuetral and give it gas to get it started. It idles really rough and then dies after about 30 seconds to a minute. If I rev the engine it sounds fine for about 15 seconds and then it kind of bogs or sputters out. I have determined the carb. is getting gas and the oil look alright. I'm on a limited budget so I need to be pretty sure that I know whats wrong with it before i go out and buy new parts. I'm leaning towards a carb. problem but any advice on what could be the cause of the problem or tests I could do would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: The cap/router/wires looked fine and the plugs were a little black but nothing that would stop it from running

Plugs black = rich. Choke operating correct?

By him not winterizing it, I'm assuming he also didn't put any gas stabilizer in the gas either then. So there's a chance your carb's gotten gummed up. First (and cheapest fix) try puttin fresh gas and seafoam in and maybe getting some spray carb cleaner down the throat and into the jets. Along with what the Dawg said, too.

btw, welcome to iboats.

ARE you getting spark at the plugs? have you checked the fuel filters, fuel oil separators? Black plugs usually a choke problem.
