Drive will not raise?

I bought a 1985 renken 950 18ft with a 3.0 L 4cylinder motor and mercruiser lower unit. Never operated anything more complicated than a canoe on water, so yeah I'm a newbie. Had it on the water twice now and the motor runs great!
One major problem, the lower unit will not raise out of the water when I am ready to pull out with the truck. I always tie it off and shut it down to go get my truck, when I come back it wont work. More specifically, there are 2 switches to lower/raise the unit. One on a toggle on the dash, and one on the joystick thing that controls the throttle. On both of them they will still try to lower and operate properly, but not raise at all (no clicks or anything!) This only happens after some time of operating and when first put in the water and in my driveway, they always work. After some time of playing with the switches, they do work and I am able to leave the lake (5-15 minutes) I have checked for loose connections and see none..

Please help me!

Please also point me to the proper good service manual for my application.

Thanks, but that only takes me to a 7 page intro or something to the manual?

Re: Drive will not raise?

I am trying to find the proper section in the manual to get this problem fixed. But, under the power trim section, it lists several different pumps. How do I know which one I have?
It lists:
Oildyne power trim pump (plasitc reservoir)
Oildyne power trim pump (aluminum reservoir)
prestolite power trim pump

I do not see a reservoir any where (do I even have one?)

Please help me determine which one I have.

Yesterday when I was pulling out of the lake and it would not raise at all, I decided it would be ok to try to pull the truck up any way. The lower unit scraped the pavement pretty good and to get it up off the ground I disconnected the trim cylinders and tied it up with rope to get home

Not fun
