Sight Tube Problem

I have a 1993 Maxum with a 5.0 Mercrusier. I recentley had to replace the fuel pump because of a ruptured diaphram. Unfortunately the person that owned the boat before me had removed the sight tube from the carb and left it plugged laying in the bilge. After replacing the pump, I used a Sierra OEM pump, I connected the sight tube to the carb where it was supposed to be connected. The problem I have now is that when I idle the engine above 1000 rpm the engine quits. I found that if I leave the sight tube disconnected the engine runs fine. I am guessing that the vacuum from the carb is not allowing the pump to work properly. Any ideas? Could it be another bad pump?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sight Tube Problem

Got any pictures of where you have it plugged in on the carb? I very well could be another bad pump, wouldn't be the first time. But really need to know where it's hooked up.

Re: Sight Tube Problem

I can get some picture tomorrow but it is connected to the tube in the upper left of the carb as you face the engine. It was the only one not plugged.
