today at the lake gentleman was having trouble with 1985 merc 115 inline 6 said he had just had the switch boxes replaced. I noticed that upper switch box #2 position went to #5 coil and on the lower switchbox #2 position went to #2 coil i always thought the the positions of the switch box went to their respective coil. Anybody know off hand how this should be? Just curious.

Off the top of my head.. I think that's correct. Perhaps they replaced the switchboxes when the stator was the real culprit? Happens all the time today.

thanks clams for the reply i found the wiring diagram on maxrules and it is wired up correctly. this is just the first time i remember seeing this.
