Re: Must See! Tug versus Bridge!

There are additional photos showing the tug righting itself then exhaust smoke where the engine was restarted. The tug was towing barges and had to release them before striking the bridge. The tug could not fight the strong current and back off the bridge before having to release the barges. There are also pictures of the Capt trying to maneuver in position to retrieve the barges. Amazing work, he and his crew should be commended. There is no mention of he degree of damage or people hurt. You can see damage to the tug however and I am sure the bridge had some as well.

That bridge is no longer there. It was called the Rooster Bridge, because the locals that wanted the bridge sold roosters to pay for it, or something like that. I have been there, and the really amazing thing is how high that water is. When I visited the site of where the bridge used to stand, the water was WAYYYY down in the river bed.

Those pics have been around the website several times, but it is still awesome to look at. Pretty much unbelievable until you actually see the pics.

I too saw the ones with him restarting the engines and hooking back up to the barges. The one pic that is not shown is where the wheel house door is open with water pouring out like a water fall. Maybe after that ordeal, the wheel house would need washed out along with the pilots pants! That incident also broke off one of the exhaust stacks too.
