Default Mercruiser trim tabs

I have a 1984 Sea Ray 18 1/2 CC 140HP and want to know if the length of the trim tabs on the stern drive makes a differance. They come in 2 sizes, 2 3/8" long and 4" long. If I have a 2 3/8" and replace it with a 4" will I have a problem?

No problem, they'll be a bit more sensitive to adjustment and work better. 2 3/8 is small... really small, I think mine are 8" or 10" in that area.
Are we talking about the same thing?

No, it's the trim tab mounted on the stern drive. I looked into this some more and found out that the propeller will hit the trim tab if it is 4". The 2 3/8" is the correct size for mine.
