Default 50 Hp Mariner Shaft Problem

I have just got my boat back together and went to move the motor and it will not move from side to side and the steering lines are not connected. I have talked to a few guys in my area and some of them are saying get a new one (W#$#$$% salesman of course) and others say to heat the leg to loosen up the grease and run it until it dies because its too much of a hassle to repair, because you have to take off the power head, remove salt and debris and regrease and carry on. Is there any other solutions for this problem. There is an obvious design flaw with the leg as the grease nipple is on the bottom of the shaft instead of the top. Any ideas

soak it in a PB Blaster, liquid wrench, etc. there is a bolt some where that control the tension or the swivel. don't think i'd use heat.

I had to replace a whole tilt and swivel bracket on my merc. Took it to a machine shop and they soaked it(and me) and applied heat and it would not budge. Shop charged more than the used 1 I got from ebay.
