I am new to Boating and have decided to take a used boat out for a test drive this weekend and wanted to know what things I should be looking for when doing so, other than the obvious of it being able to float and move?
The boat is a 2004 Larson Cabrio 240, Volvo 5.0 GXI FI with only 17 hours on it. I'm not too worried about speed right now but rather than just cruising around and pulling the occasional skier and inflatable. Will this be enough power for me? Are there any known issues with this make/model? My primary use will be in lake Erie, will that size be big enough for the lake?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and opinions are welcomed!!
A 24' boat would be sufficient for Lake Erie. It can get big out there pretty quick, so taking a buddy out familiar with boats would be a good idea until you get to know the boat well. A boating safety course couldn't hurt either.
the engine and drive are a great set up. with only 17 hours, but being 4 years old. it's due for an impeller, watch water temp on testing, so as not to burn it up. the first thing i would do with it. is to completely service the engine, outdrive, bellows, sitting is much worse on them than occasional use. once serviced it should be a great boat.
