I have a 1974 Crestliner w/120hp mercruiser after our winter first trip out we notice the fresh water hose from the impellar to the engine has a kink in it and motor is getting warm.Taking a closer look I find that it is just some heater hose five eights in dia. Is this correct or is there to be a ribbed hose on these connection?
Thanks for all your help

Re: Hose Issues

Are you talking about the short hose back between the drive and tansom bracket? It's a 5/8 hose, but much stiffer than heater hose. A lot of people think that they can cheap-out by putting regular heater hose there and don't buy the correct part. Heater hose invariably kinks. The right stuff looks like plain old heater hose, but it definately isn't. However you can use regular heater hose inside the boat between the transom bracket and motor, although it might take a little extra to avoid kinking up by the thermostat housing where it attaches.

Re: Hose Issues

I'm sure it is just cheap heater hose. This is a carry over from last year purchase and restore. Is there any help with finding where to get a new one or should I look here for just more ridgid hose from a local sourse.
Thanks again
