Re: 1977 johnson motor
Start with some basic troubleshooting. Check the compression. Is there any evidence of overheating? Does it crank over freely? Check the spark when it quits. It should jump a 7/16" gap. Take the hex plug out of the bottom of the carburetor when it quits. Does a bunch of gas run out? Look at the end of the plug that you just took out. Is there any gum or varnish on the end? It should be bright shiny clean.
What you should NOT do is just start guessing and tearing stuff apart on the basis of "it might be"
