I have a Evinrude 4 hp that has less than 20hrs on it. It is 10 or so years old. I recently got it out and used for quite a few days. Today the top cylinder has completely died on me. When idling the engine sounds strong. Under load it wimps out. I pulled the wire and checked for a spark. It is getting a spark. I am not sure what to do next. I don't really know how to make sure it is getting fuel/compression/etc. Are there any other simply explained tests I can do? I am not afraid to pull it apart and work on it. Seems similar to the lawn mower engine I pulled apart years ago.

did you change the impeller before putting into use? you may have blown a head gasket with it running hot. get a screw in compression guage and turn the engine over 4 cycles, on both cylinder. post numbers. when ever you put one back in to service after hibernation you need to do these things.
