What happens if my 1975 9.9 hits a log? Clutches slip?

Hi All
I have a 1975 9.9 that I'm wanting to start using in a shallow river. I'm concerned about what's going to happen when I hit a log. I know this motor does not have a shear pin. Will the prop slip or will I tear out the prop bushing each time I do this.
I uses to bust a half dozen sheer pins a weekend with my old motor.

You better carry a spare prop...

Yes, the rubber hub in the prop absorbes impacts to protect the drive train when grinding up stumps and rocks. The hub can take it but the blades take a beating.

Do you run with the tilt lock engaged? If so, try disengaging it - if you hit an obstruction head-on, the motor should kick up out of the water.

Does't that engine have a shallow water drive setting? Flip the lock/unlock lever on the side of the engine to unlock, tilt the engine about half way up. You should heard click as a bracket moves into postion. Lower the engine, the bracket should contact the tilt pin and hold the engine at a tilted angle. To lower move the lock lever to lock, lift the engine a bit then lower it. it should then go all the way down.
