My 90hp 1996 Mariner alarm goes off after running for a short period of time. The horn makes an inconsistent sound almost like morse code. It is not a steady beep (for overheating) and it is not a intermittent beep (for low oil). It just randomly sounds off at an inconsistent rate. Anyone run into a similar situation? Any suggestions?

Re: Strange Alarm on 90hp Mariner

Most odd signals like that come from a bad warning module. Other odd signals can come from the horn itself, so that's another possibility. Disconnect the warning module. If the problem goes away, it's the module. If it stays, it's the horn. I'm going by memory here, the module is about a 2x2 black unit with purple, black, tan/blue, and maybe another wire coming out of it. Disconnecting the tan/blue should be adequate. Just make sure it's the tan/blue from that unit.
