Lower Unit Break-In Procedure

I had my LU rebuilt last year and I'm trying to remember the best way to break it in. So far I have about 4 hours on it. I was told to put 10 hours on it before considering it fully broken in and being able to tow anyone.

It's an '86 Evinrude XP-150.

Can anyone give me their procedure??

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Lower Unit Break-In Procedure

Hmmm....

What about anyone else?? I am now starting to wonder if I need to do anything else. I don't really know why a LU would need a break-in, unless it was just to get the gears used to working together.

Most of the 4 hours I have on it was done last fall, just before it got cold. I remember there were so many times it needed to shift, which was pretty much accomplished the 1st outing. Then I had to idle for so long, then keep under a certain speed, changing RPM's occasionally. I'm just not sure where I am right now.

Well, I had it done at a dealership. I suppose I will give them a call later and ask again. I know they said they wanted to check/change the lube after 10 hours to ensure no metal was floating around.
