Default mercury ignition switch replacing

Hi

specs: 1993 90hp outboard Mercury with quicksilver control panel.

I intend to replace my factory ignition switch because it may be faulty.
I see one here for at IBOATS
http://www.iboats.com/3_Position_Pus...-view_id.49307

for under 20 bucks with the same type of function i.e 3 position with push to choke.

two questions: 1. compatibility? I read here that any after market switch should work.

2. degree of difficulty? I imagine that it is just remove and replace with correct coded wires.

Am I delusional that this would be an easy job to handle?

thanks

Default Re: mercury ignition switch replacing

Simple but tedious job. That switch should be compatible but may not have all the same markings (A,B,C,S,M,M). I recently did mine, used a Sierra push to choke 6 pin switch from Boaters World that was 100% compatible and only $18.

Pull the controller off, separate the back plate, pull out the old ignition switch. Then re-connect each one, individually so you don't forget which went where. Some of the leads may be short if they are cut/ corroded- easy to add extra length if necessary. At most this is a one hour job.. After re-installing, check switch box for any voltage at the black/yellow terminal (should be 0 volts).
