Default Evinrude control help

Hello all, and happy memorial day. I have a few questions and concerns that maybe you can help me with. I purchased a 1973 Evinrude 65 HP, to go on my 15' runabout. I am a newb to the boaters world let me add. The motor came with controls that were in pieces and in fair/poor condition. I was wondering if there are controls that I can purchase to replace these. Do they make replacements still by OMC or do I need to find a generic one? I do not know/understand what features I would need on the controls, so any help would be appreciated. I also need cables for the motor as well.

The motor has a red plug, with six wires on it (i think). I also have the female end with about 5 inches of wire left on it. Does this end go to the controls and ignition?
I also assume that the battery cables go right to the solenoid? Is there a way to have a dash mounted ignition or are they built into the controls? As far as the choke goes its a manual choke, then on the manual choke there is a setting for automatic, is there a way to work the choke from the controls? It does not start from the automatic position, I need to pull the choke out. I just did not want to have to run to the back of the boat to put on the choke, then go and shut it off.

The next question is about a Tach. Is there a wire in the red plug for the Tach. Or do I have to wire it right into the motor?

The next question is in regards to fuel tanks. I was thinking of carrying two 6 or 12 gallon portable tanks. Is there a way to tie these tanks together and have a primer bulb near the controls up front? Maybe a 3-way valve to shut one off while the other is feeding? The tanks are stored in the stern, in a little cubby underneath the splash platform in front of the transom?

Thanks everyone so much for your time and effort!

you can use any omc control johnson or evinrude that has the big red plug harness. the key is usually in the control, along with the button for the autochoke, it has to be activated at the control to work. you will also need the throttle, and shift cables from control to engine. not sure if the 73 was prewired for the tach. battery pos cable goes to solenoid, battery neg goes to a ground connect on the engine, not the solenoid. if you don't want to have to get into the fuel compartment to change hoses, there are several things that can be done. you can just bring 2 separate hoses to the splash well area, with primer bulbs on both, and just change the connect at the motor, or you can go a little more high tech, and put a Y valve in, then the primer bulb. but you don't want to go running a bunch of hose to the cockpit and all as the fuel pump is only so strong. i strongly suggest you get the OEM manual for you motor, it's available new at this link, or get numbers and search ebay. http://www.kencook.com/evinrudejohns...973&ID=5438 2

engine diagrams, part #'s including controller here follow prompts. http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Accessories/Literature/
