1985 Suzuki DT55 Tachometer question

Can I use essentially any marine tachometer with this motor?

It has the three wires leading out of the control box, and in checking Teleflex's web site I gather that it probably has the 6 pole alternator, therefore the 3 cylinder setting would probably be appropriate.

Is this correct? I just mounted it on a pontoon boat that already has a tach in the dash, but I wanted to verify that it will work before I connect it.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, and I realize this. My question is, does this motor have 6 or 12 poles, i.e. the 3P or 6P setting? Sorry I didn't word it better.
