New Motor Initial Idle Speed Adjustment

I just got a chance to REALLY look at my 1985 Johnson 115 that was installed on my boat using the controls and cables from my 1977 Evinrude.

I know that the OMC manual says to set the idle speed while in the water, but how do you get that INITIAL setting so that the motor will start and such? Should I adjust the cable so that the little rubber stop is against the block? If so, do I do that with the fast idle in run or start position?

Thanks so much,

Joe

If you're speaking of the little rubber or plastic stop that is on the end of as screw about halfway up the vertical throttle lever, then yes, have that against the stop/block..... and have the controls in the dead idle position.

On a flushette, you can set the idle to 1000 rpm with a 20" shaft engine and to 1200 with a 25" shaft engine. In the water, the idle will drop to normal.
