I have a 1997 evinrude (50HP). The problem that I am having is a lose of power in rough water.

In calm water it runs great, but when you hit some waves the engine will drop to an Idle. I took it in for repairs last year. They changed the diodes. This did nothing. I changed plugs ,gas , gas lines. Nothing seems to work.

I'm not sue what to try next. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What diodes? Does the throttle lever stay where you had it when this happens? If it returns to the idle position there is a friction adjustment knob on the control box. Tighten the friction know which increases the amount of force required to move the lever.

The throttle does not move. The engine simply goes from full throttle to an IDLE. The trottle will be wide open and all I will get is idle speed from this point on.

i think you best get someone to move the throttle while you watch the engine linkage.
